Stompy has always been a viable deck in Standard, but do hydras help? Let's find out!
With Core Set 2020, we got a new hydra tribal card, Gargos, Vicious Watcher. It reduces the costs of our other hydras and whenever it becomes the target of a spell or ability (ours or our opponent's), it fights another creature.
The Deck
4x Gargos, Vicious Watcher
4x Hydroid Krasis
4x Voracious Hydra
4x Hungering Hydra
3x Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner
4x Paradise Druid
3x Llanowar Elves
4x Incubation Druid
4x Dive Down
2x Rabid Bite
1x Temple of Mystery
13x Forest
2x Island
4x Breeding Pool
4x Hinterland Harbor

The Gameplan
One of our win-cons is getting a huge Hydroid Krasis and dealing lots of damage to our opponent. With all the ramp in the deck, its X value gets pretty high. It also lets us refill our hand and its power scales the longer the game goes on. Overall, this card is an all-star.
Once this card gets big enough, it's almost impossible to deal with through combat and requires kill spells like Murder. This card is a powerful finisher in the late game, but sadly it does not have trample.
This card doesn't really have any special abilities, but it is quite large and can deal quite a chunk of damage if not removed quickly. It can also fight another creature, though this was quite uncommon since having a bigger creature meant that it would outclass the threat.
There isn't much to say about Kiora. It ramps us and draws cards which is why it's so good in this deck. There are some other ramp cards in the deck which don't need to be mentioned in detail that much which are Incubation Druid, Paradise Druid, and Llanowar Elves.
This card protects any of our hydras from removal, but works especially well with Gargos on the battlefield because they have to use a removal spell on one of our creatures and then we target it again, giving Gargos two fight triggers which is quite powerful.
This card lets us deal with an annoying threat and if Gargos is on the battlefield, it lets us deal with two annoying creatures. This is a pretty good removal spell and is quite helpful.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, hydra stompy was actually pretty good and played like any other stompy deck. One thing to note though is that we had two little creature removal and no noncreature removal which caused us to lose some games. If I could go back and change the deck, I would add some more removal. Overall though, the deck was pretty solid.
Thanks for Reading.
BTW, I'll be out of town for the next two weeks, so I won't be able to post anything. Sorry.
